an Underwater Paradise

The Bunaken Marine Park

Sat at the very heart of the coral triangle, the Bunaken Marine National Park (BNMP) covers roughly 890 square kilometres — 3% of which is terrestrial, including the islands of Siladen, Bunaken, Manado Tua, Mantehage, and Nain.

More than 390 species of reef-building coral, thousands of species of reef fish, and countless species of invertebrates inhabit Bunaken Marine Park, making it one of the world’s premier tropical water scuba diving destinations.

Boat Excursions

Professional valet boat service

Dives are conducted exclusively by boat, as strong currents make shore diving unsafe. Two dives are scheduled in the morning and one in the afternoon, with dusk and night dives available upon request.

Groups are kept small, with a maximum of four divers per guide, and private guides are available on request. Each dive is preceded by a detailed site and safety briefing. Maximum dive time is 70 minutes unless otherwise stated.

After Dark

Night Diving

Night dives in Bunaken reveal the ocean’s most mysterious and fascinating side: as the sun sets, the reef transforms and each dive becomes a journey into a hidden world. At Siladen Resort & Spa, we don’t just offer traditional night dives—we invite you to experience something even more immersive with blackwater and bonfire diving.

Blackwater Diving

Blackwater diving is a unique type of night dive conducted in deep water. Lights are suspended from the surface, attracting tiny larval-stage creatures that are part of the largest vertical migration in the animal kingdom.

During this dive, you’ll have the rare opportunity to observe these larvae up close as they float like delicate jewels in the dark water, offering a truly extraordinary experience.

Bonfire Diving

Bonfire diving takes place closer to the reef, where fixed lights attract a wide variety of marine life. The lights draw in small organisms such as squid, shrimp, and fascinating larvae emerging from their shelters in the back reef and nearby deeper waters.

It’s a unique opportunity to discover the nocturnal world of often unseen creatures. The glow of the lights reveals intricate details and surprising behaviors, creating a truly immersive and captivating experience.

For those who prefer to stay closer to the surface, night snorkeling is also available, allowing you to enjoy this spectacle from a privileged perspective without diving deep.
