Our story is a simple one. We love NUSS. The owners were married here and generations of their family have lived and still live here.
Our mission is to provide guests with a unique and memorable experience that will lead them to return to Siladen. We will behave in a socially and environmentally responsible manner, and we are committed to taking an active role in helping develop the local community.
In 2004, we launched a conservation program to protect and safeguard the many turtles that call Bunaken Marine Park home. Our staff have been trained by marine biologists to properly handle turtle eggs and manage hatching grounds. To date, 1000s of turtles have hatched and been released through this conservation program. We also support The Turtle Foundation, an international charitable organisation working in sea turtle conservation projects.
At Siladen Resort & Spa, we believe that our success is intrinsically linked to the health of our surrounding environment. Our dedication to preserving and protecting Bunaken Marine Park isn’t just about ensuring our resort’s future—it’s about safeguarding one of the world’s most precious marine ecosystems for generations to come.
Our Green Initiatives:
Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey. We recognize that there’s always more to be done, and we’re dedicated to continually evolving our practices to better serve our environment.
By choosing Siladen Resort & Spa, you’re not just selecting a beautiful tropical getaway—you’re supporting a business that’s actively working to preserve the natural wonder of Bunaken Marine Park. Join us in our mission to protect this paradise for future generations to enjoy
As part of our efforts to preserve the marine environment, we have installed mooring buoys to allow boats to anchor safely, without damaging the coral reef. Our staff are forbidden from using boating practices that may cause damage to the coral reef, and guests diving with Siladen Resort & Spa must sign the NSWA code of practice.
We organise regular PADI Project AWARE activities and World Ocean day activities, and we invite the local children to be part of these projects.
Siladen Resort & Spa is an active member of the North Sulawesi Water-sports Association (NSWA), regularly appearing at meetings and participating in all organised activities. These include Eco Reef and BioRock installations, Crown of Thorn clean-ups, release of illegally fished Napoleons, and most important of all, keeping an eye on others who also use the park, reporting any harmful or illegal activities.
Like many places throughout the developing world, stray domesticated animals such as dogs and cats can pose a problem if left unchecked. We invite the local veterinary team to the island for yearly vaccinations and sterilisation of stray animals. Local residents are also welcome to have their pets vaccinated and sterilised, free of charge.
The resort pays for all transportation and sterilisation costs, while the vaccines are donated by the veterinary teams.
Sustainable Waste Management
At Siladen Resort & Spa, we recognize that waste management is a significant challenge in developing nations. We’re committed to minimizing our environmental impact through innovative waste reduction and recycling practices.
Our Waste Management Initiatives:
We proudly support the daily operations of the No-Trash Triangle Initiative (NTTI), united by a shared commitment to stop plastic pollution in North Sulawesi.
The No-Trash Triangle Initiative (NTTI) is dedicated to protecting the Coral Triangle from the devastating effects of plastic pollution through practical, on-the-ground action. Their work includes implementing waste collection systems on remote islands, conducting daily beach cleanups, and maintaining river barriers in Manado to stop plastic waste from reaching the ocean. NTTI also provides marine biology education for children on the islands, operates two sorting stations, and creates stable job opportunities for local communities.

We are committed to preserving the original vegetation of the island. We have therefore embarked on a long term landscaping effort aimed at continuously improving the attractiveness of the Resort and its surroundings.
Due to a shortage of water on Siladen during the dry season, we have installed desalination plants for the resort so we do not negatively impact the islands fresh water supply.
We have also installed water capturing systems on most of our buildings, which will capture and divert rain water to our reservoirs. We also capture drainage water from air conditioning systems, which we use on our plants and herb garden.
